Inside a Playwright's Mind
Mar. 7th, 2009 09:56 amHappy sunny Saturday!
I adventured into the South End last night to see Carl Danielson's play, "Paranormal." I'm not a deep, analytical theater-goer like some of you, but it was fascinating to see Carl's work of the past seven years come to the stage, and get a glimpse into his playwright mind, filled with an alien warrior bunny, an iconic rock god, teacher, teenagers and ghosts battling the forces of evil and teenage romance. He has created funny and spooky rich characters, and sent them on amazing journeys. The acting was wonderful. It's always fun to watch Nick Z. emote, and Carl has written some great lines that you'll be quoting forever after.
It was great to see familiar faces from Theatre@First, and meet new folks we might be able to lure into our next productions! I even met someone who admitted she likes to produce! After so many nights at the House Manager's elbow, I was looking around at how they ran things, picking up new ideas, and marveling at how real theater can happen in a small space with a few people, a little Powerpoint and of course, excellent sound effects. :)
If you haven't been over to the Factory Theater for this show, get there for closing night tonight! It's an easy drive down Mass. Ave. and over the river, or just around the corner from the T. There's even a yummy pizza joint, Ronny's, close by for a pre-show nosh at the corner of Tremont/Mass Ave. And the weather couldn't be better.
