Dining Alfresco

You should try Alfresco!

[livejournal.com profile] audioboy and I have tried the new Davis Square Italian restaurant twice, and agree that it's time to recommend it to you.

It's on Highland Ave., on the corner near Kickass Cupcakes and When Pigs Fly Breads (which you should also check out!) They've managed to turn the interior from the sterile pizza place it was into a real dining room with dark wood tables and chairs, candles etc.

We got take out from them through Foodler.com, and then ate there last night. It should be a great option for pre-theater dining or take-out. The food is very tasty, presented beautifully, and had creative mixtures of ingredients. The waitress is very personable and friendly. The prices seem very reasonable, especially with the quality of the meals.

To start you off, they bring out free bread with two dipping choices - olive oil or a spicy red paste. Both were tasty.

We've tried these items:

Appetizer: Bruschetta 4 slices for $7.95

Entrees:
The portions are good sized, served on platters or large bowls.

Shrimp risotto with mushrooms, zucchini $13.95
Chicken parmesan over linguini $10.95
Meatballs (5 big ones!) over linguini $10.95
Veal Alfresco - apricots, raisins, pine nuts in a cherry wine sauce with roasted veggies $14.95

Desserts:
Each one was elegantly displayed on a platter
with fruit, whipped cream and chocolate drizzles

Chocolate Cake - incredibly moist
(menu says German Chocolate cake, but it's not) $3.50
NY Cheesecake with ground pistachios on top - super creamy $3.50
Warm Baklava (2 triangles) $3.50

They've been reviewed in the Boston Globe already

There are a lot of reviews on Yelp, mostly about their weekend brunches.
