Lake Winnipesaukee Wisdom?

We're headed up to NH for a few days, so I am looking for recommendations of things to do or see and places to eat and so forth. We staying near Laconia, on the SW shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Been up in that area? Any ideas? Thanks for any clues to pep up our mini-vacation!

A cruise on Winnepesaukee on the Mount Washington is cool -- they talk a lot about the islands and the history of the lake. I'm a big fan of the Old Country Store in Moultonborough for kitsch, a candy counter, and general fun.

I don't eat out very often when I'm up there (I'm usually visiting family), so I don't have much advice there, alas.
