We had a wonderful day in and around Lake Winnipesaukee. The weather was perfect! 70's, low humidity, sunny, breezy...such a change from yesterday! It felt like a real vacation!
We were slow getting moving, didn't make it out of the house until nearly noon. We went to Kitchen Cravings at the Laconia Airport for brunch.

They have a huge menu of creative breakfast and lunch items, but I went with a special - three lobster tails with butter, sweet potato fries and cole slaw. I shared a bacon-y corn chowder with N. He tried their eggs benedict with filet mignon and cheese. The people were very nice. Our waitress was brand new. We sat in the corner with a lake maps all around so I learned a lot about this area.
Neil wanted to get a haircut, so he asked a local sitting next to us where to go. He recommended Jerico, four lights up the road. We went there and made an appointment - they could fit him in an hour later. So we looked the Union Diner next door, and strolled through the pet store. We went across the highway to the beach near the Barton Motel, a lovely place right on the water. We browsed Annie Book Stop, a fun used bookstore. Then it was time for N. to get his hairs cut. I went to the local Shaw's to look around - you can tell a lot about an area by their grocery stores.
We headed back to Weir's Beach. We were just in time to get on a cruise! We took the M/V Doris E on an hour-long tour of the lake.

It was stunningly gorgeous! We saw mountains and islands and lots of huge houses.
We strolled down the boardwalk looking at the arcade and the shops. I got my hand henna'd! A nice fellow with a little tent drew it on my hand and told us stories of the great flood of 2008 that did 200 years of erosion in about 5 hours, taking out the pier and boardwalk. It took millions to repair, so they've cut back on a lot of other stuff like weekly fireworks. We walked out the pier and got three t-shirts for $10.
We headed over to Meredith for dinner. We ended up outside on the second level of the Town Docks, one of the many Common Man restaurants all over NH.

There are about two nights a year when I'd want to eat outside and this was one of them. The view was spectacular! We shared their special coconut shrimp appetizer, raspberry lime ricky sodas, a cup of clam chowder, a basket of corn fritters, then a dinner combo of 2 steak tips, 1 crab cake, 5 grilled shrimp, rice pilaf, corn on the cob and watermelon! Delicious and cheap!
We drove around the lake a bit...so pretty!
Now we're back at the condo, planning to watch the second episode of the BBC's "Sherlock."
