Chocolate bacon
Oct. 11th, 2008 07:27 pmI'll admit it - I love bacon.
I've seen a lot of posts recently about bacon parties, with all sorts of wild and wonderful combinations of bacon with other tastes. But I had not tasted any of these delights until today.
N. and I made our way to Waltham in search of trinkets that make interesting sound effects for his Halloween radio show. It was my first time out on that stretch of Moody Street near the Charles River with amazing restaurants, fabulous thrift stores and old-fashioned shops.
After a big haul for a little money at the thrift store, we strolled down the street checking out menus. Thai, Salvadoran, Mexican, microbrewery, Japanese...wow. Reminds me a bit of Inman or those blocks of Center Street in JP.
We ended up at Jake's Dixie Roadhouse, a barbecue joint. This is the same Jake from Jake & Earl's, the tiny bbq place in Inman years ago. I'm not going to review the other food...you can get better barbecue elsewhere (see Yelp for more details). http://www.jakes-bbq.com/main-menu.html
But hiding at the bottom of the special menus is something called "pig lickers" - strips of bacon coated with dark chocolate and drizzled with chocolate sauce. The combination of sweet and salty was divine. Six strips for $5.95 seems reasonable for this slice of heaven. We brought them home and ate them with a class of cold milk. Yum.
If you've seen this dessert on other menus closer to home, let me know. I'd love to know where to get it that doesn't involve a trip to Waltham.
