Report from Snow Central

bex77I hope you all got home safely.
I had one of the worst commutes home in awhile. The good news - I got out of work at 2 pm! Great! I'll catch the 2:10 bus. The bad news - no 2:10 bus. and no 2:30 bus either. So I decided to start walking.
I got to walk through the crowd of about 400 teenagers at the Cambridge High School. They got out at 2:30 pm with no buses to take them home. So there were gaggles of teenagers throwing snow and screaming at each other all along the street. I went in to Darwin's sandwich shop to warm up and wait them out.
I made it about half way home, stopped in Inman Square for bottled water and a warm-up and headed out again. I didn't get very far, ended up sitting in the empty Christina's ice cream store awhile. Pondered whether Concord Grape sorbet would solve my problems. Decided not so much. Felt like I'd never make it home. Called my mother and talked until the mobile phone network got overloaded. *sigh* Felt bad for all the merchants who had geared up for the special sales night in Inman tonight.
Walked on until I was about 5 minutes from home...stopped at the Snack Bar, the local sub shop, to un-freeze a bit.
Finally made it at 3:30 pm. 90 minutes after I left the office. Usually takes me less than 30 minutes. Ugh.
It wasn't slippery, just had to trudge along because no one had shoveled yet. And the wind wasn't too bad. And I had on the right coat with hood, scarf, gloves and shoes. Unlike the woman at the bus stop in pink flip-flops.
The vehicle traffic was a MESS. Gridlock. Not moving. People who thought honking their horn would help. Moving maybe 5 mph when it did move. So glad I didn't talk N. into picking me up.
Home now...slowing thawing. Not going out until April.

They were having a special tonight on 20 different flavors of chocolate!
I think the sorbets were the grape, apple cider, strawberry and something else...I adore their cassis sorbet...so purple and tasty! Their ice cream is very, very creamy. The basic flavors are awesome, but they are famous for the bizarre ones. I think the owner gets bored and starts thinking, "Clam chowder. I could make a kicking batch outta that." N. had some amazing "Sex on the Beach" flavor awhile back.

There is also a spice shop next door run by the same folks. Fabulous places!
