We celebrated the end of the wonderful one-acts with Sunday brunch, making our first foray to The Independent, an upscale pub in Union Square. The service was excellent and the food was delicious with lots of flourishes from a creative chef. And no line to get in!

Their web site is rather thin, with no menus or prices, but a link to their daily specials on Facebook.

They serve brunch Saturday and Sunday, 11-4 pm. You order off a small menu with regular breafkast items in one column and lunch items in another. We called The Friendly Toast at 11:30 am and asked for their wait time - they said 1 hour and 20 minutes! So we headed to Union Square, got easy parking in the little lot and went right in to the Independent! No lines! Hooray!

The waitress was incredibly friendly, picked right up on a toss-away comment about celebrating the end of our show to ask lots of questions about Theatre@First. I gave her a Taf card and a big tip.

Entrees
Three eggs/sausage/home fries $9 - friend said sausage was dry, but tasty and the potatoes crispy and good

Eggs benedict $11 - had shaved ham instead of Canadian bacon-very flavorful; eggs and sauce were perfect

Steak & eggs with toast & home fries $14 - great marinade on the perfectly cooked steak
Side of bacon - very tasty, not as crisp as I like, but I find that most places

They also had an array on lunch items from onion soup to BLTs and burgers.

Drinks
Good hot coffee, great iced coffee $2 each with free refills
A Bloody Mary with huge celery and house-made spicing $4
They had lots of good non-alcoholic drinks, including cucumber lemonade
An entire page of beers, over a dozen pulls and 30-something bottles

So I say don't stand in line, head to the Independent.
