I was truly blessed this Thanksgiving. I didn't have to cook or buy any food, and I didn't have to drive very far. The weather cooperated - it was cloudy but in the 50's -doesn't get much better than that this late in November.

I am especially thankful for the wonderful people in my life.

I feel so so lucky to have a sister who plans ahead and can organize and cook dinner for the entire family and her in-laws! We had so many people this year, we had to get a room at the local church in Arlington. She even systematically split up the leftovers, so I could taste the delights all over again. Thanks, E!

I stayed with my dad while everyone prepped at the church. With some help, I made his new TV work so we could see the Macy's parade and the National Dog Show. I was rooting for the plucky "Cupid" the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen who was the top dog in the Hound Group. But "Sadie" a lovely black Scottish Terrier, ended up best in show. http://www.pawnation.com/2009/11/26/paw-nation-talk-with-the-winning-handler-from-the-national-dog-s/

I also made his computer work so he could see his gmail account. I ferried him up to the church. He was a little confused today, but moving well and cheerful. Every year, I wonder if he won't be around next year, and he has been surprising me for 20 years now. Thanks, Dad.

I am blessed to have the cutest, smartest niece in the world, who showed up with a new haircut and an amazing new dress with black velvet and a poofy skirt. Seeing the world afresh through her eyes and marveling at her composure in the face of family chaos is a treat. Thanks, A.

My most excellent husband sat by my side, laughed at my bad puns and helped dry and put away a metric ton of dishes and silverware and pots and serving dishes. Whee! Much of what went on today is a trial for him, but he was kind and supportive about it all. Thanks, N.

I enjoying reading the thanksgivings of my friends from the theater group. So many great writers and great people. And the thankful Doctor Who fans near and far on the interwebs. It is inspiring to see all the thankfulness and the many joys and friendships that have flowed from our theater adventures this past year. And the connection I feel to some folks over a British TV show.

I am thankful for my cat, the ornery sweet Sherlock, who was so precious this morning as we left, rolling around the living room floor with a rediscovered sock full of catnip, and so funny this evening trying to convince us that all turkey should be his. And the gravy, too.

Life is good - nice place to live, job that values me even as the University goes through a rough patch, great family, wonderful husband, entertaining cat, thriving theater...I marvel at them all.
