We had a great brunch in Arlington today at the Arlington Diner on Mass Ave. not too far from Rte. 16. It's not fancy, but sometimes you just need food and they have it. Cheap, fast and good. Eggs, pancakes, waffles, toast...you know. It's about 25% cheaper than our usual haunts in Cambridge and Somerville.

We went in about 12:30 pm and there was plenty of room. The waitress was very nice to us, kept the drinks and food coming.

I tried the Irish Eggs benedict, which has corned beef hash instead of Canadian bacon. It was very tasty. The home fries were delicious, slices of potato and onion, lightly grilled...not burnt to a crisp like so many places get away with. I also had a few slices of bacon - cooked just right on the crisp end.

Their "large OJ" made me giggle. It is the smallest "large" drink I've seen. I think it was 6 oz. Tiny. The coffee mugs had ads for local businesses on them...never seen that before.

N. tried their hot chocolate and said it was worth getting seconds. He had their sausage omelet and wheat toast. Our other diner companion, the lovely and talented eclecticavatar, also had an omelet and they both seemed happy and full when we were done.

The prices are great. My benedict was only $8.95 and the omelets in the $6.50 range. If you're on a tight budget, their one egg breakfast with meat, potatoes and toast is only $4.75.

They serve dinner every night except Sunday. The menu has a Greek base, but all the usual diner favorites and very reasonable prices. Might have to try that.

So this is definitely on my list of places to go when I am out that way.
