Driving day

bex77I drove through five states today! We woke up in CT, grabbed a quick breakfast and gassed up the mini-van (note to self - DO NOT BUY GAS IN CT! Freakin' $2.99 a gallon!) and headed South. I drove through NY, NJ, DE and finally made it to our destination in Maryland 6.5 hours later. There was a lot of traffic, but it moved along. The worst was in the last 10 miles, of course. The forecast had threatened snow flurries and rain, but it was so nice I had to get out my sun glasses for the first time in ages.
The trees along the way were telling a story. A tale of VERY BAD WEATHER, not long ago. There were huge trees down, 2/3rds of each tree pointing to the highway, with the top 1/3 cut up into piles in the breakdown lane. The Saw Mill River Parkway was the worst, but we saw it all along.
We took a brief siesta at the hotel, then went over to see the parents of N's friends from Australia for a couple of hours. They are so civilized...setting out crackers and cheese and spinach dip. They told us stories about the big snowstorms - they were stuck in the house for almost two weeks! He said he gave up measuring the snow after it got above his yard stick! There was still a big patch of it in their front yard. So startling to see that!
We headed out to the India Grill on the Rockville Pike http://www.indiagrillonline.com/ for dinner.
The strip mall with the Indian restaurant is quite a complex. There is the Indian place, a Vietnamese place, a sushi shop, a Mexican place and a Persian restaurant! And the IHOP! I could spend a week eating right there.
We met a couple from D.C. - N has known the wife online for years and this was their first meeting. She was marvelous, and the husband had lots of stories from his theater lighting tech days. The buffet was huge and they paid!
