We tried Moulton's Seafood tonight. It's not far from Davis Square and Tufts, tucked back in a residential area off Boston Ave. I'd heard about it for years, and was glad to see it for myself.

They don't have a web site, so I patched together info about them from Yelp, a Boston Globe review and a random menu site.

We parked in the back - there's a small lot for 5-6 cars and strolled in about 6:15 pm. You enter through the small bar area with a gorgeous black marble top, then hang a right into the long, narrow dining room. It seats 50 people but looks smaller. It's a neighborhood place. Nothing fancy, but clean and homey.

There is one waiter. It took him forever to take our order, but once we got started the food came quickly.

The menu is long...soups, appetizers, salads, fried entrees, grilled/baked/broiled entrees, lobsters, steak tips, seafood rolls. The frequency of "Market price" is problematic...but when you ask they are not that high. And it is a sign that the seafood is fresh.

We tried the clam chowder. A big "cup." It was creamy with lots of clams and potatoes, but bland so I added pepper. Next came stuffed clams, buffalo scallops and coconut shrimp. The clams were huge and delicious, with great stuffing. There were so many scallops we couldn't finish them. And the shrimp were crispy with a tangy sauce.

For mains we tried the fried combo (shrimp/scallops), fried shrimp platter and the blackened grilled tuna. The fried dishes come with onion rings, french fries and cole slaw. The tuna lets you choose a side. Big portions. Didn't really need the soup and appetizers. Or could have ordered them and nothing else. There were leftovers to go home on everyone's plate.

Everything is good. Simple, cheap, and tasty. Good batters - not greasy. Good service once you get started. There's a large, clean bathroom.

This place reminds me a lot of Court House Seafood in East Cambridge...a little bigger and fancier with a waiter instead of a counter, but the same great fresh seafood, neighborhood regulars, and reasonable prices.

We liked them too!

We've never been to Court House Seafood, but if you say they're like Moulton's, we should definitely give them a try.
